How to make bold text on Facebook
- Type your sentence in the box above.
- Copy the Bold sans line. It matches Facebook's own typeface most closely, so it looks native.
- Open Facebook, start a post or comment, and paste.
This works in the main feed, comments, group posts, your profile bio and Marketplace descriptions. It also works in Messenger.
What works best on Facebook
Bold for the first line
Posts are cut off after a few lines with "See more". A bold opening line is the simplest way to stop the scroll. Bold the hook, not the whole post. A wall of bold text is harder to read and looks like spam.
Strikethrough for price drops
Sellers in Marketplace and buy-and-sell groups use strikethrough to show an old price next to a new one: $̶1̶2̶0̶ now $90.
Italic for quotes and asides
Italic works well for a quote or a side note under a link. Facebook's own typeface has no italic, so this is the only way to get it.
Where it won't work
- Your profile name. Facebook's name rules reject unusual characters, so the name change will fail.
- Page and group names. These are usually reviewed and can be rejected.
- Ads. Meta's ad review may flag unusual characters, and they hurt readability in a paid placement.
AccessibilityScreen readers may read styled letters one at a time. If your post is an announcement people must not miss, put the key details (date, place, price) in plain text.
Questions
Does Facebook allow bold text?
Not in normal posts. Facebook only offers bold and headings inside Group posts with the formatting toolbar. Everywhere else, Unicode bold like the styles above is the way to do it.
Will bold text hurt my post's reach?
There's no evidence that Facebook penalizes Unicode text. Too much of it can look spammy to readers, though, so use it for a headline or a few key words.
Why does my bold text look different on my phone?
Each device draws these characters with its own system font. The letters stay bold, but the exact shape can vary between iPhone, Android and desktop.
Can I use these fonts in Messenger?
Yes. Paste them into any Messenger chat.
